The tragic disappearance of two great icons, Jarno Saarinen and Renzo Pasolini, in the same accident at Monza in the 250cc race (1973) brings to mind the times when motorcycling road racing (at the highest level) was disputed in sadly ridiculous safe conditions. This sad event had a huge impact on public opinion and, in addition to the disastrous and immediate consequences, it was a decisive milestone in changing the way sports motorcycle safety was approached!
